Wild Horses

(M. Jogger alias E. Nord)

(Every year in the last week of August members of the sports club Brosteinskameratene (cobble stone comrades) run all the distances from 100 to 10.000 meters in memory of Wilma Rudolph and Emil Zatopek.)

End of the summer, late August days,

there is a rumour 'bout a strange race.

Great celebration of stars lost and gone

This year's memorial is finally on.

Wild horses, couldn't drag me away.

Wild, wild horses, I'll be one some day.

5000 meters make me feel

like I was Zato-

pek, old Emil.

Later - 400. Evans, Lee,

never displayed greater beauty than me.

Wild horses, couldn't drag me away.

Wild, wild horses, I'll be one some day.

Wednesday, the worst starts,

15 and 8,

challenge our poor hearts

and years of gained weight.

Good old Herb Elliott and Peter Snell

would surely have thought this

crazy like hell.

Wild horses, couldn't drag me away.

Wild, wild horses, I'll be one some day.

Wilma Rudolph, where have you gone?

Now that I need you: show me to run!

200 meters after 10 K,

will I reach goal line? Pray for me, pray!

One 100 meters - I confess I'm amazed

by subtle sensations of being Bob Hayes.

Wild horses, couldn't drag me away.

Wild, wild horses, I sure was one today.
